Financial support

London Borough of Tower Hamlets is implementing new steps to tackle fuel poverty, aware of the impact that increasing fuel bills will have on residents living in the borough.

The council has increased the budget for the Resident’s Support Scheme by 33% (from £600k to £800k) for 2022/23 to residents most in need during this difficult period. Please note this is crisis support and ongoing support cannot be provided through this fund.

The council's Revenues Team is also processing the council tax energy rebate which will consist of a “one off” payment of £150 to households who have a council tax liability and their homes are in bands A-D as previously outlined by the Government. This payment will also apply to those claiming council tax support and will be paid automatically.

By way of signposting, the council is also working in partnership with the Bromley by Bow centre and Citizens Advice on the provision of vouchers to help residents on prepay meters meet increases on rising fuel bills.

Finally, we would also encourage households to look at the Warm Homes Scheme operated by their energy supplier and apply for this discount where they are eligible. Details of the scheme can be found at www.gov.uk/the-warm-home-discount-scheme

For financial assistance or support in applying or checking your benefits eligibility please contact our Financial Health Centre on the details below.
