Beware bogus callers

Most people visiting your home will be genuine but beware of bogus callers – sometimes called ‘distraction burglars.’ These people may try to enter your home in order to steal money or valuables.

All of our staff and contractors carry ID and you should ask to see it before letting them into your home. We will never ask for your bank details over the phone.Bogus calls

We employ a third party company called Ridge to carry out surveys of our properties; if you are due to have an inspection by this company they will write to you in advance to tell you when they'll be visiting and why. Contractors from Ridge will be wearing THH branded high-visability vests and will have Ridge ID cards and a letter from THH verifying their identity. If you are in any doubt, please call us on 020 7364 5015 to double check.

If you think you have a bogus caller, close the door and call 999 straight away.

Remember the following rules:

Lock - Keep front and back doors locked, even when at home.

Stop - Before you answer, stop and ask whether you are expecting anyone. Check that you have locked any back door and removed the key. Look through a spyhole or window to see who it is.

Chain - If you decide to open the door, put the chain or bar on first. Keep it on while you talk to the visitor on the doorstep. (Normally, when the door is shut and locked, you should leave the bar or chain off in case you need to get out in an emergency).

Check - Check their details before you let them into your house.
