The Childcare Plus Project provides comprehensive training for local women trying to get back into work; the project enables women to learn workplace and communications skills while boosting confidence through a foundation skills training course.

The project has been running for three years and has helped more than 500 women gain the skills & qualifications they need to take up employment – so far, more than 30% of participants have gone on to further training, employment or voluntary work.

A celebration event to mark the end of the most recent training course was held at the Ecology Pavilion in Mile End, where successful participants who studied for a Cache Level 2 in Childcare were awarded their certificates by Deputy Mayor of Tower Hamlets, Cllr Sirajul Islam.

THH’s Community Partnerships Manager, Fokrul Hoque said:

“This project offers local women and THH residents the opportunity to learn new skills so that they are better placed to re-enter the workplace or train for employment. I’ve seen first-hand the impact that the programme has had and it’s clear that the scheme helps to raise the aspirations of participants.”

The Childcare Plus Project is a three year scheme funded by the Big Lottery and run by Limehouse Project, Account3 and the Somali Integration Team with support from Tower Hamlets Homes. The scheme has been nominated for the Women in Housing Awards in the category ‘Improving the lives of women and communities’ and the ceremony is due to take place on 11 October.
