Leaseholders Take advantage of help and expert financial advice

Tower Hamlets Homes is encouraging more leaseholders to talk to them about payment options - so that THH can help leaseholders to manage the cost of major improvements.

The Decent Homes programme will enhance, refurbish and protect properties for years to come, and some leaseholders will want to explore a more flexible approach to paying for their share of the work.

Ben Whiteside, Head of THH Leasehold Services, said: "We are carrying out much needed investment to the outside of the homes we manage.

"We are aware that  some leaseholders are facing large bills for decent homes and other major works  - and that's why we have been supporting and talking with residents for many months. Understandably, some are worried about meeting the payments, and our message is: 'please come and talk to us. There will always be a way we can help, whatever your financial circumstances.'

Ben added, "Many leaseholders have already been talking to us about the range of flexible payment options, which can often help to spread the cost, including extended repayment for up to 5 years.

"As well as payment options, we have a dedicated team who work with leaseholders to assist those in financial hardship to manage their payments, and get help from Department of Work and Pensions. Home visits are available as part of this service.

"We also hope to be able to extend our payment options for longer periods in extreme cases, and we are currently in talks with the Council about this."

Leaseholders can also discuss their concerns face-to-face with leasehold advisors at weekly surgeries run by THH, every Thursday between 9am - 12noon and 1pm – 5pm at the Residents' Resource Centre, Massingham Street, E1 4EB.
