Stonewall, the UK leading Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual (LGB) campaign organisation this week  (15 January) announced that Tower Hamlets Homes has made the Top 100 of the UK Workplace Equality Index for the first time.

Tower Hamlets Homes came 44th out of 369 organisations who entered nationally, an outcome of three years of cross-community partnership to make workplaces and neighbourhoods more inclusive for LGB staff and residents.

The Index, which was this year headed by Sunderland-based housing association Gentoo, contained just nine other housing sector organisations across the UK - with Tower Hamlets Homes placing fourth in the sector.

Tower Hamlets Homes approach to community engagement in particular was highlighted as a case study of national best practice, and features in the Stonewall Top 100 Employers 2014 The Workplace Equality Index.

Les Warren, Tower Hamlets Homes Director of Finance and Customer Services and Senior Lead Champion on LBG issues, said: "I'm proud to work for an organisation that does not tolerate homophobic and biphobic prejudice, and actively campaigns against it.  All Tower Hamlets Homes staff and residents (whether LGB or straight) should be proud of what we’ve done to promote equality in Tower Hamlets in the last three years.”
