Summer youth activity programme in Tower Hamlets, run by Tower Hamlets Homes

On 4 August Tower Hamlets Homes (THH) launched a five-week programme of activities for young people aged 12 -25 years, including arts and crafts, sports, social action projects and day trips, all of which are free. Youth workers are out on estates, engaging with young people and encouraging them to get involved in the large programme of events specially designed for local residents.

With Coronavirus restrictions only just easing and the difficulties that lockdown has caused for families, it’s never been more crucial for young people to have ways to keep fit and feel engaged and valued with safe, socially distanced and virtual activities to occupy summer holidays. Covid-19 has meant a worsening financial situation for families on low incomes and for many has caused worry and stress about how to keep young people occupied, the summer programme provides the answer without increasing worries about money.

Following the success of our youth-work programme last summer, we have commissioned five organisations to deliver this year’s programme, they are:

  • Society Link, covering Shadwell and Wapping
  • Valance Community Sports Association, covering Globe Town
  • Osmani Trust, covering Chicksand and Collingwood, Bethnal Green
  • Newark Youth, covering Whitechapel and Stepney
  • Neighbours in Poplar & Splash, covering Poplar and Limehouse

For full details of all the activities on offer and how to book are available here.
