Giving rubbish dumpers the red and yellow card!

Rubbish dumpers could be a thing of the past
following the introduction of a new scheme which fines residents
caught dumping rubbish.
The scheme means residents will get a warning
or yellow card if they’re caught dumping rubbish followed by a
second letter or 'red card' if they do it again and charged
for having their rubbish taken away.
First introduced on the Collingwood estate,
Bethnal Green, the scheme has been a great success
with rubbish dumping dropping by 83%.
“Residents have been really positive
about the scheme and they're keen to see it introduced in
their neighbourhood, so much so that we plan to roll it
out across all 27,” said Nicholas Spenceley, Head of
Environmental Services.
When will the scheme start in my
neighbourhood?
You can find a
list of dates here or look in your neighbourhood
newsletter for more details.
What happens if I dump rubbish
after the scheme has started in my
neighbourhood?
You'll receive a written warning - or
'yellow card' - from us asking you to get rid of your rubbish more
carefully in the future.
What happens if I'm
caught dumping rubbish again?
You'll receive a
second warning letter - or 'red card' - from us and we'll
charge you for getting rid of your rubbish.
How long does the 'yellow
card' warning last?
One year. The
warning will be removed after this time.
What happens if I don't agree with
either the 'yellow card' or 'red card' warning
letters?
Tells us why you don't agree with the warning letters
and we'll look into it and then get back to you with
our decision.
