Probation
All new employees to Tower Hamlets Homes are
required to complete a six month probation period.
Hours you are required to
work
The normal working week at Tower Hamlets Homes
is 35 hours per week but part time and flexible working
arrangements are always fully considered.
Salary
Please see individual advert for salary scale.
You will be paid at the end of the month and we increase salaries
every year with a cost of living pay rise and annual incremental
progression up to the maximum point on the scale.
Final Salary Pension
Scheme
THH employees may join the Local Government
Pension Scheme which is regarded as one of the most generous
currently available. Both the employee and the employer contribute
into the scheme and full tax relief is automatically given. The
scheme provides excellent benefits in the form of an index linked
retirement pension and tax-free lump sum based on final year’s
salary, together with ill-health, redundancy and death
benefits.
Pension benefits can be transferred to or from
our scheme provided Inland Revenue requirements are met. The Scheme
is contracted out of the government State Earnings Related Scheme
(SERPS).
Notice
One week during the Probationary Period. One
calendar month for employees below PO6 and three calendar months
for employees graded PO6 and above, once appointment has been
confirmed.
Retirement age
Normal retirement age for this post is 65.
Request to work beyond the retirement age will be considered on an
individual basis.
Continuous Service
Tower Hamlets Homes is covered under the
Modification Order, so, if you join us from another public sector
employer or another employer covered under the Order, we will
recognise your continuous service for the purpose of redundancy,
annual leave, sickness entitlement and maternity entitlements.
Medical screening
All offers of employment are subject to
medical clearance and you will be required to complete a medical
questionnaire and in some instances a full medical. All information
received is treated confidentially.
Tower Hamlets Homes is committed to the health
and wellbeing of its staff and buys into a local occupational
health service that provides health and fitness events throughout
the year. All staff have access to this service and a confidential
counselling service.
National Insurance
You need to produce original proof of a valid
National Insurance number. Failure to provide this could result in
the offer of employment not being confirmed.
Annual season ticket
loans
These are available to employees who wish to
purchase annual season tickets for travelling to work.
Travel allowances
If you are appointed to a job that requires
you to undertake regular visits around our estates you will be
provided with an annual travel allowance of £113 6 in addition to
your salary. This is a one off payment paid each year.
Cars users -
essential/casual
If you are appointed to a job where it is
essential that you have a car you will be eligible to a monthly
allowance to cover the cost of running your car for business
purposes and will be able to claim actual mileage incurred.
Car parking
Car parking space is limited in the
borough, but those staff that need a car to fulfil their
duties will be provided with an on street parking permit. Other
employees are encouraged to use the various transport services
available.
Smoking
Tower Hamlets Homes operates a no smoking
policy.
Declaration of other
employment
Employees on Scale 6 and above are expected to
devote their whole time service to the work of Tower Hamlets Homes.
If they undertake any additional employment either paid or unpaid
they will be required to receive approval from their manager.
Code of Conduct
All employees are subject to Tower Hamlets
Homes Code of Conduct which provides guidance on general standards
of behaviour and conduct.
Annual leave
Annual leave entitlement is between 21 to 31
days depending on length of service and type of job. Individual
entitlements are included in the contract of employment. In
addition to normal bank holidays Tower Hamlets Homes allows three
additional days paid leave at Christmas and one additional days
paid leave at the spring bank holiday (this
day can be used as a flexible day at other times of the year).
Occupational sick pay
Tower Hamlets Homes promotes an attendance
culture and regularly reviews ill health issues with staff as part
of our performance culture, however if you are absent because of
genuine illness you will be eligible for sick pay.
Learning and development
We are committed to ‘lifelong learning’ and to
developing the potential of all our employees. A generous learning
and development budget has been introduced to support this
commitment. All staff will receive a Performance, Development and
Review (appraisal) once a year with a review every six months.
All employees are encouraged to take
responsibility for their own learning, to share their learning, and
help to create opportunities for others to learn. As part of this
appraisal individual Learning and Development plans are drawn up
and these support the overall Learning and Development plan for
Tower Hamlets Homes.
