Youth Ambassador

Are you aged 16-24?
Why not become a voice for your neighbourhood and help us make it a better place to live.

There are still places left on the Youth Ambassadors programme. We need a number of young people to help us make a difference in our neighbourhoods.

As a Youth Ambassador you will be:

  • A voice – represent where you live;
  • A role model – for young people in your neighbourhood;
  • An advisor – help us solve local issues;
  • Respected – give your perspective.

The benefits in return are fantastic:

  • Mentoring – get the benefit of others’ skills and experience;
  • Experience – enhance your CV;
  • Confidence – improve how you deal with people;
  • New skills – your confidence will grow with your new skills;
  • New friends – meet new people and share your ideas.

Gabrielle Appiah who lives in Bethnal Green became a Youth Ambassador earlier this year. Here she tells us how she’s getting on so far:

YA

“I have been the Youth Ambassador for Approach Neighbourhood since July.

It has been very exciting to be involved. So far I have organised an Olympics party in my area which was great way to bring the community together. I have also designed artwork for a mural as part of the Youth Panel’s ‘Bling my Hood’ project. During the summer holiday I volunteered to help with the Family Sports day at Mile End Leisure Centre where I had to use my communications and influencing skills to gather a group to take part in the Zumba class - it was really fun as I participated myself.

I have also met my local Housing Officer and Neighbourhood Engagement Officer to discuss ideas for a green area in my neighbourhood. I became an Ambassador because I want to work with all people in my area and be a bridge between my community and Tower Hamlets Homes. Being a Youth Ambassador has already given me lots of experience - I feel now I am able to provide a voice for others and be heard.”
