Freedom of information
The Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOI)
gives people a general right of access to information held by
public authorities and companies wholly owned by public
authorities.
The Act gives the public access to most
structured information held by Tower Hamlets Homes. This includes
reports, documents, emails, maps, audio and visual
recordings, unless Tower Hamlets Homes deems the information to be
exempt in which case a legal exemption will apply.
The Freedom of Information Act 2000 is
regulated by the Information
Commissioner who is the Independent Authority responsible
for ensuring compliance with the Act.
Under the Act all Public Authorities including
Tower Hamlets Homes needs to adopt a Publication Scheme
How to make a Freedom of Information
(FOI) request:
Information about Tower Hamlets Homes can be
found on the Tower Hamlets Homes website or made available through
the Publication Scheme.
If you cannot find the information you are
seeking on our Publication Scheme then you can make a Freedom of
Information Act request by:

All requests must be in writing and a valid
correspondence email or postal address must be provided.
As much detail as possible should be given to
assist us in identifying the information being sought, though we
will be happy to assist you with this. If we need more detail from
you to identify the information, we will contact you.
Will there be a charge?
If the Company can provide the information you
have requested, taking no more than 18 hours of staff time, which
is equivalent to a total cost of £450 using the government’s hourly
rate of £25 per hour as set out in the regulations, there will be
no charge..
The only other charge that might be taken into
account is the cost of photocopying and postage
(disbursements).

How will we respond?
We will respond as far as possible in the way
you wish us to. This can be by post, email or arranged personal
collection, for example. We will provide you with the
information requested within 20 working days where we can, or tell
you why we are unable to do so. If for any reason there is likely
to be a delay, we will let you know. The information
requested can be provided in a different language or format such as
Braille, or in audio cassette, or in large print.
What you can do if you are unhappy
about a decision on your request?
