Equality information
As a public body the Equality Act 2010
requires us to meet certain statutory duties. The purpose of the
statutory duty framework is to assist public bodies to tackle
persistent and long-standing issues of disadvantage.
The general duty requires us to give due
regard to equality in the way we operate as a service provider and
employer. In doing this we must take steps to:
- Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation
and other conduct prohibited by the Equality Act
- Advance equality of opportunity between people
- Foster good relations between people
In addition, we will demonstrate how we
deliver equality outcomes by:
- Publishing annual equality information from 31 January 2012
that shows our performance and can be used by the public to hold us
to account;
- Publishing equality objectives at least every four years from 6
April 2012
The Equality Act covers the
following nine protected characteristics:
- Age
- Disability
- Gender reassignment
- Pregnancy and maternity
- Race
- Religion or belief
