About us

Tower Hamlets Homes manages homes and estates owned by Tower Hamlets council. We are responsible for the day-to-day running of the estates - from collecting rent and service charges and carrying out repairs, to improving homes and estates.

The council is still the landlord and the owner of the homes. Tenants are still council tenants and leaseholders are still council leaseholders, with the same rights and responsibilities.

Tower Hamlets Homes was set up by the council as an arms length management organisation, part of a government plan to channel extra money into council housing.

Tower Hamlets Homes is wholly owned by the council but we are a separate not-for profit organisation, managed by a board of directors. The board is one third residents, giving tenants and leaseholders a direct voice on the housing service, one third councillors and one third independents, who bring specialist skills and expertise.
