A group of children
from Hague Street Primary School together with local artists
brighten play area with their designs
Tower Hamlets Homes has teamed up with Hague
Street Primary School in Bethnal
Green and Signs of Life from Bromley by Bow Centre to
create a mural in the new play area in Potts Street on the Horwood
estate, after residents asked if the area could be brightened
up.
Children and teachers from the local primary
school were keen to join in the project and get their ideas down on
paper. Visiting community artist, Chris Warmington, worked with the
children during a specially arranged workshop to come up with the
designs for the mural. Chris put together the ideas and created a
design incorporating the work from children across the school.
Community artists, Maria, Neva and Eva, from
Signs of Life, Bromley by Bow Centre, painted the final design on
the walls of the playground.
Ian Dalgleish, Project Officer for THH New
Initiatives Implementation Team set up the whole project. Ian
said, “It really great to see local young people do something
positive and make a change for their community and
neighbourhood.”
The new play area for the children of Potts
Street and Horwood estate, which opened in April 2010, was funded
through Play Pathfinder and managed by Tower Hamlets Homes.
