Saturday 5 December saw residents join in the BBC
Breathing Places World Record attempt to plant the most trees in
one hour.
Lots of residents pulled on their wellies,
rolled up their sleeves and joined in the World Record attempt.
Trees were donated by Connaught
Partnership, one of Tower Hamlets Homes’ contractors, who not only
distributed the trees but also helped residents plant them.
Tree planting events took place across the
borough including Will Crooks Estate Poplar, Teesdale and Hollybush
Estates, Bethnal Green, Cranbrook Estate, Bethnal Green and Tower
Hamlets Cemetery Park, Mile End.
“Tree O’clock was a brilliant opportunity for
everyone to join in, have some fun and plant a tree. Not only will
it help improve the local environment and increase local
biodiversity, it could also help break a world record!” said Roy
MacPepple, Tower Hamlets Homes’ Architect Sustainability &
Biodiversity Coordinator.
“We’re going to let Tree O’Clock know how we got on
and hopefully every tree planted will count towards the attempt to
break the Guinness World Record™. We’d like to say a big thank you
to all residents who came along and got involved.”
Trees need a bit of TLC once they’ve been
planted, especially in the first year. If any local community
groups or residents are interested in adopting the new trees to
make sure they get the care they need, call Roy on 020 7364 0328 or
