Tower Hamlets Homes wins TPAS national and regional award
for work with Somali residents

Tower Hamlets Homes Somali Tenant Engagement
Project has won the TPAS 2012 National and Southern
Regional Excellence in Equality and Diversity
Award.
The project has supported over 250 Somali
households in Tower Hamlets to reduce rent arrears, ease
overcrowding and gain employment. As a result, satisfaction with
Tower Hamlets Homes has risen from 59% to 82% amongst Somali
residents.
Gavin Cansfield, Chief Executive said,
“Winning this award really shows that Tower Hamlets Homes is
focussed on improving services for all residents, and that we want
to find ways to help people access our services that suit
them. I’m incredibly proud of the work we have done and it’s
good to be recognised at a national and regional level.”
Tower Hamlets Homes Bling My Hood
project, inspiring young people to give something back to
their community, was also shortlisted for the TPAS
2012 regional Excellence in Youth Involvement Award and highly
commended by the judges.
The project helps improve local
neighbourhoods through painting and planting and encourages
young people to take pride in their area and feel involved in the
local community.
The National finals took place in Birmingham
on 17 July 2012.
The TPAS awards are open to social
housing providers, tenants and contractors to give recognition to
excellent work and vitally to share best practice among the sector
so more people benefit.
