Nominations for the third
annual STAR in the Community Awards are now open
and the search has begun to find inspirational Tower Hamlets
residents who volunteer their time to make a difference to the
communities where they live.
The awards celebrate local heroes in the
borough who go the extra mile. This could be someone who does
community or youth work, someone who has overcome a personal
obstacle to achieve success, someone who organises events for local
people, or who simply supports and helps others in their local
area.
If you know someone who fits this description,
why not show them how much you appreciate what they are doing by
nominating them for a STAR in the Community
Award?
This year two more organisations have joined
the awards; Eastend Homes and Providence Row Housing Association
now bring the number of housing providers involved up to 11.
Residents from these organisations as well as the nine involved
last year, can nominate people who have made a difference to a
neighbourhood in Tower Hamlets.
We are looking for people to be nominated who
are residents of the following housing providers: Eastend Homes,
Gateway HA, Newlon Housing Trust, Old Ford HA, One Housing Group,
Poplar HARCA, Providence Row Housing Association, Spitalfields HA,
Swan HA, Tower Hamlets Community Housing and Tower Hamlets
Homes.
The five award categories
are:
- Inspirational resident award
- Young People’s Award (Under 25s only)
- Contribution to resident involvement
award
- Bringing people together award
- Environmental award
The last four categories are open to
individuals or groups.
Winners will be judged by a panel of
independent judges and announced at a special award ceremony held
at a prestigious local venue, in November.
Nomination forms are available from any of the
above local housing providers’ offices and websites, by calling
Majidha Begum on 020 7780 3094 or you can nominate online at
www.facebook.com/starinthecommunity.
Entries close at 5pm on 24 August
2012.
