Tower Hamlets residents
are invited to help relocate one of the borough’s iconic
structures.
The Westferry Traffic Light Tree is looking for a new site
having been removed from its previous position on Heron Quay
roundabout as part of a major improvement scheme for the
junction.
The popular local landmark has stood on the Heron Quay
roundabout since 1998. The lights are in safe storage whilst a
suitable location is found.
Margaret Cooper, Head of Service, Transport and Highways at
Tower Hamlets Council, said: “We know that the lights are held in
great affection on the Isle of Dogs. The move was necessary to
facilitate the road improvements in the area.
“The council is looking to relocate the lights to a new site and
welcomes residents' suggestions for a new location.”
To suggest a new location for the Westferry lights, please email
the council at roadsandhighways@towerhamlets.gov.uk,
putting "Westferry Traffic Lights Tree relocation" in the title of
the email.
Suggestions will be collected until Wednesday,
January 11, 2012.
