Young
people in Tower Hamlets were out in force, and making themselves
heard over the weekend at Youth Vision - the first youth event held
by Tower Hamlets Homes. Around 200 young people took part on
lively day that showcased some of the boroughs young talent and
featured street dancing, rapping, singing and interactive
workshops.
Councillor Oliur Rahman, Cabinet Member for
Children Services, attended the event and said :"It was really
good, and it’s great to see young people getting engaged in housing
and airing their views in a positive way".
The event was organised by the Tower Hamlets
Homes Youth Panel members, including the Young Mayor, Nahimul
Islam, who said: “It was really good to see such a big turnout
and it was also great to hear the views of young people and see
such talented people perform”.
At the event, young people from across Tower
Hamlets talked about how housing services could be improved and
what is currently affecting their quality of life. There were
also stalls from various youth organisations, giving young people
the opportunity to get involved in volunteering projects, training
and helping them with their employment prospects.
Tower Hamlets Homes Chief Executive, Gavin
Cansfield, who also attended the event, said: “The Youth Vision
event was led by and organised by young
Tower Hamlets Homes residents and has really shown
just how bright, energetic and talented young people are.
They have made themselves heard and we look forward to working with
them to make Tower Hamlets a healthy, safe and positive place for
young people to live”.
