Local Government
Improvement and Development has awarded Tower Hamlets Homes the
“Achieving” level of the Social Housing Equality Framework, it has
been announced.
THH made an early corporate
commitment to use the Equality Framework to embed a clear structure
to our planning and improvements, alongside the Audit Commission’s
inspection criteria. Our
Diversity Strategy set out how would improve, and we have
aligned strategic objectives to the Equality Framework’s five
outcome areas in our Business Plan.
Throughout a two-day on-site peer
challenge, four external equality and diversity specialists spoke
to over 80 residents, staff, board members and partners and found
that we are operating at the Level 2 "Achieving" level of the
Equality Framework, in line with our
own self-assessment.
“This result shows that we are
continuing to improve services for residents and staff,” said Chris
Creegan, Chair of Tower Hamlets Homes Board.
“It's hugely rewarding to see us go
from strength to strength in delivering equality and addressing
diverse needs. It is a great tribute to the hard work and
dedication of Tower Hamlets Homes staff that this has been
recognised by external reviewers.”
The peer reviewers identified a
number of areas of particular strength – including our analysis of
rent arrears, our workforce and equality impact assessments - as
well as a number of areas which we will need to continue to develop
so that we can achieve the third - and highest - level of
"Excellence" in the future.
Gavin Cansfield, Tower Hamlets Homes,
Chief Executive, commented: “I am delighted with the result. The
rating reflects the significant progress that has been made over
the last two years in meeting the diverse needs of customers and
staff, and that we are increasingly ensuring that everything we do
is inclusive, accessible and fair.”
