New front doors to improve home safety
500 residents,
across the borough, are to set to receive new
‘Secure- by- Design’ doors to replace the old, standard type
front door.
The doors, which are police–approved and
tested to meet high security standards, are to be fitted to
tenanted homes in areas where security is a concern.
Tower Hamlets Homes has teamed up with the
council’s Safer Neighbourhood Team and Anti Social Behaviour
Prevention and Enforcement Manager to identify homes most in need
of the new doors.
The doors are also designed to improve
insulation as well as security, and could help residents save
energy and reduce heating costs.
Works to install the doors began in
February and is due to finish in April 2010.
