Homes boost will transform estates

Residents living on two estates can
look forward to brand new homes and improved community facilities,
after councillors gave the green li
ght to plans
to transform the Ocean and Robin Hood Gardens estates.
In all, more than 2,000 modern homes are
set to come on stream on the estates, with more than £100 million
of investment attracted to the borough.
At Robin Hood Gardens in Poplar, up to
1,600 new homes are set to replace the present 250 flats, together
with wider improvements for the whole Blackwall Reach area,
including new park areas, leisure facilities and improvements to
the local school.
Some 800 flats on the Ocean Estate in Mile
End are also to have new kitchens and bathrooms, with the outsides
of all 1,200 flats receiving an extensive makeover.
