- Extra 4 million for improvements
Extra 4 million for improvements
An extra £4 million - on top of the £6 million
announced in March - has been allocated to Tower Hamlets Homes by
the council for improvements.
A number of estate improvement works are already under way
including clearing overgrown areas, organising parking, re-routing
traffic, resurfacing, improving playgrounds, cleaning brickwork and
painting.
Additional works will also be undertaken to deter anti-social
behaviour. These include: new lighting, fitting of grilles and
replacement door entry systems. The works are being carried out
mainly by local contractors and so provide additional jobs for
local people.
The works programme has been drawn up in consultation with
residents to make sure that the money is spent in priority areas.
More consultations are taking place to agree further projects for
the coming months.
As well as estate improvements more money will be available for
communal repairs identified at estate inspections Some of the extra
money will also be used to increase home adaptations for older and
disabled residents and to tackle overcrowding through increased
support for underoccupying tenants looking to move to a smaller
home and targeted knockthroughs of bedsits into larger homes.
