Disabled resident gets justice
A disabled resident, who was being attacked in her own home, is now
safe thanks to Tower Hamlets Homes’ Anti Social Behaviour Team, the
Council and the Police.
The resident was being assaulted and
threatened by two people staying in her home. The abuse came to
light when the resident confided in her social worker, who
immediately contacted our Anti Social Behaviour Team to ask for
help.
The offenders, who have an extensive criminal
record and a history of abusive and violent behaviour, are now
barred from coming into contact with the resident, as well as from
entering the borough.
As soon as the case was referred to us, we
moved the resident into safe, temporary accommodation, while we
worked with the Police and the Council’s Legal Team to get a full
injunction against the offenders, which was granted on 9 December
2009. If they breach the injunction, they will be taken into
custody immediately.
As well as getting tough on the offenders, the
Anti Social Behaviour Team supported the resident throughout the
entire court process, and helped to secure her a new home.
Head of Tower Hamlets Homes’ Anti Social
Behaviour Service, Claire Demmel, said strong partnership work
between the Tower Hamlets Homes’ Anti Social Behaviour Team, the
Council's Social Services and Legal Team, and the Police made it
possible for the resident to get the justice she deserved.
