Community Day 09

The Community Day held at Mulberry School for Girls on Saturday was
a huge success with hundreds of visitors coming along to enjoy a
fun packed day, information stalls, tasty food and a wide variety
of entertainment. Lots of statutory and community services
were there, as well as 'third sector' organisations, to give out
information in person or via leaflets and to offer screening
services such as blood pressure testing and diabetes testing as
well as health check MOT.
Tower Hamlets Homes Community Development
& Engagement Officer, Najima Al-Basith said; “We had over 100
visitors to our stall. It was fantastic. We talked to residents
about how they would like to get involved in our services -
including surveys, meetings on their estate and local community
groups - and the kind of activities they wanted to see on their
estate.”
“Events like these are a great way for us to
meet and learn, first hand, how residents would like to see
housing services improve in their area, whilst linking up with and
forging partnerships with other local community organisations”.
The celebration was helped by sunshine and
blue skies and the fantastic venue at Mulberry Schools for Girls,
Richard Street, Commercial Road.
Mohammed Shibbir Ahmed, LAPS 3&4 Extended
School's Cluster Coordinator for Tower Hamlets Council said:
“Community Days are a great way to demonstrate the partnership that
is being forged between schools and community based organisations.
Schools are hub sites for bringing people and services together, so
that communities can find out what is available in their local
area”.
