Caretakers show true grit!

Our caretakers faced a big clear up after
Monday’s heavy snowfall - the worst for two decades. Caretaking
teams set about clearing ice and snow from hundreds of estates’
paths and roads this week.
Mikey Emmett, caretaker from the Rogers
estate, said ‘When I arrived at work on Monday, residents remained
my top priority. I began clearing snow from the estate paths and
roads with my shovel. It was really hard work as the snow had begun
to turn to
thick ice. But I just got
stuck into it. After clearing the snow I
laid grit on paths and roads by hand to help residents stop
slipping over.”
His hard work and dedication won the praise of
several residents in the area. “I was called into the office and
told by my manager that a number of residents had said what a
wonderful job I’d done – despite the difficult weather conditions.
It’s great to get such positive feedback for doing a job you
enjoy.” said Mikey.
Another caretaker, Michael Smiley from the
Locksley estate, made sure he got to work before his start time to
battle against the snow and worked to keep pathways clear and lay
grit where it was needed.
Even one of our technical officers joined
in the big clear up. Repairs inspector, Steve Wray, pulled on his
wellies, rolled up his sleeves before getting down to help
caretakers on Turin Street. “Staff were thin on the ground on
Monday, so I decided to help out where I could,” said Steve.
“Gritting paths, clearing ice and snow - I was happy to do what
ever was needed to help residents stay safe.”
As the big freeze is set to continue the rest
of this week, our caretaking teams will be out in force checking
and keeping paths and roads on estates free of ice and snow.
