Big Swap, big success
Last Sunday (February 5) environmental charity
Global Actio
n Plan, Sky
and Tower Hamlets Homes hosted ‘The Big Swap’, a new and innovative
reuse and recycle initiative.
The event, which took place at The Central
Foundation Girls School in Bow, attracted hundreds of local
residents who popped along to swap things they no longer wanted for
things that they did. Dozens of items - including clothes, fashion,
books, DVDs, toys and bric-a-brac- destined for the rubbish tip
were swapped for something more useful and free.
Residents were treated to a fashion
workshop and a demonstration by experts on how to make a
fashion statement wearing recycled clothes. There was also a
competition to win Sky + HD free for a year, which was won by a
Tower Hamlets Homes resident.
The Big Swap received over 380kg worth of
donations. Hundreds of left over items were given to two charity
shops, Spitalfields Crypt Trust and Help The Aged while several
items of clothing were sent for textile recycling.
