Saving energy and money
Here’s some handy tips to help you go green
and save money at the same time:
- Use energy-saving light bulbs. They save
energy, last longer and can save you up to £30 a year. Use these in
the lights that are on the most to save the most energy, usually
your living room and kitchen.
- Turn your central-heating thermostat down by
just 1°C. It could save you up to 10% on your fuel bills. Turn down
the thermostats on individual radiators.
- Close all your curtains at night to prevent
heat escaping through your windows. Leave a window open slightly if
you have problems with condensation in your home.
- If you buy a new appliance, like a fridge,
make sure it has a good energy-efficiency rating. ‘A’ is the best,
‘G’ is the worst.
- Put aluminium foil behind radiators to keep
the heat from being lost through the walls. You can buy special
foil from DIY shops.
