Leasehold Policy Review
At their meeting in February 2011, the
Council’s Cabinet approved a paper called ‘Leasehold Policy
Review’, which aimed to make the leasehold policies more
streamlined, efficient and up to date in legal terms.
Tower Hamlets Homes’ Leaseholder Service
Improvement Group met and discussed the proposals; their comments
were taken into account.
The major changes to policies that will affect
you are:
- All leaseholders must now pay for lifts and communal door entry
systems, even if you live on the ground floor
- The way heating costs for communal systems are charged may
change in some cases
- If a leaseholder wants to be left out of a part of a major
works contract (for example, window replacement to flats in a
block) because they have already carried out similar work, the item
must be in good repair and have a future lifespan of at least half
of the item being installed as part of major works
- Leaseholders who are successful in being left out of a part of
major works contract (see bullet point above) will be charged their
share of related costs, for example: preliminaries, professional
and management fees.
- The sub-letting policy has been tightened up.
