On 29 August Tower Hamlets Homes (THH) held a Jobs Fair at the Idea Store, Whitechapel. Working  in partnership with the London Borough of Tower Hamlets employment and training provider, Workpath, THH saw over 450 borough residents drop in for advice.Jobs Fair

The Fair, one of three held by THH’s Community Partnerships team this year, gave local residents the opportunity to have informal interviews with employers and apply for support and guidance with job applications and training.

Employers on the day included TfL, London Fire Brigade and the NHS. 80 residents also signed up for bespoke employment support from THH’s training provider Go-Train and will benefit from one-to one support at THH’s Financial Health Centre in Stepney.

Shakir Sayed, Senior Community Partnerships Officer at THH said:

“While most of our Community Investment work is geared towards THH residents we always like to work with organisations to deliver opportunities to all residents of the borough where we can. Working with the council’s employment and training provider Workpath enabled us to put on a large event and invite high profile employers with live job opportunites; with residents able to apply for vacancies on the spot.

“Events like this are really useful in helping us to reach out to groups which are typically underrepresented in the workplace."

John Biggs, Mayor of Tower Hamlets said: “It’s a great opportunity to bring local people together with employers. It’s quite a strong job market in London but for many people they need that stepping stone.”
