Tower Hamlets Energy (T.H.E)

Posted on Wednesday 7th August 2019

The council runs a number of energy efficiency initiatives which are available for THH residents to take advantage of. This programme of energy efficiency includes energy switching and boiler replacement schemes.

Boiler Replacement Programme

This is a free scheme to replace old inefficient gas boilers and faulty radiators as well as upgrade heating controls. Residents may also be eligible for draught proofing and insulation.

To qualify, the property must be leasehold or freehold. The owner or a family member must also live in the property and be in receipt of one of these benefits:

Qualifying benefits:

•    Attendance Allowance
•    Child Tax Credit
•    Council Tax Benefit
•    Disability Living Allowance
•    Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
•    Incapacity Benefit
•    Income Support
•    Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA)
•    Pension Credit
•    Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
•    Universal Credit
•    Working Tax Credit

There must be a non-condensing gas boiler or old condensing gas boiler in the property which is not currently in production. Residents can check the make and model on the Home Heating Guide website to verify this. The existing boiler will be replaced with a like-for-like 'A' rated high efficiency condensing boiler with upgraded heating controls. The Council may also insulate and draught proof homes where this is feasible.

Big London Energy Switch

The council runs a scheme called the Tower Hamlets Energy (T.H.E.) Community Power, which uses the collective buying power of residents to ensure that energy providers offer the best energy rates possible to those who are registered on the scheme.
