Tower Hamlets Homes (THH), the arms’ length management organisation (ALMO) of Tower Hamlets Council took home two awards at the prestigious UK Housing Awards last night.

THH scooped the top prize, Landlord of the Year and an additional award for their work on diversity.  Known as the ‘Oscars of the housing world’, the UK Housing Awards, run by the Chartered Institute of UKHAHousing, showcase the best performers in the housing sector.

With an extremely strong shortlist, the challenging selection process for the longest running housing awards in the UK, including being grilled by a panel of experts on every aspect of their business.

Tower Hamlets Homes (THH) provides services for some of the most disadvantaged communities in the country and the need for great housing services in Tower Hamlets is unquestionable.

Almost two thirds of THH’s 21,000 residents are from a black or ethnic minority community, over 20% are recorded as being vulnerable and almost half of residents registered for re-housing are living in overcrowded homes. These challenges and their impact on customer satisfaction are the challenge that THH constantly seeks to rise to and which has been recognised by the award judges.

Chief Executive of THH, Susmita Sen, said:

“This shows that there are no challenges that a housing organisation can’t overcome if they are determined to improve.  It’s an achievement that all our staff, our board, our partners and our residents can be proud of and it’s thanks to them that we’ve won.

“We won’t stop here.  Our vision and our values that go beyond traditional housing management will continue to make us determined to make Tower Hamlets Homes the best homes to live in and our communities the best to be part of.”
