The work of a number of talented and tenacious residents from across Tower Hamlets has been celebrated at a special event at Harford Community Centre, in Stepney.

The residents have been rewarded for successfully completing an inspiring borough-wide training programme coordinated by Tower Hamlets Homes (THH).

Ann Lucas, Chair of THH Board and Councillor Sirajul Islam, the council’s Lead Member for Housing presented certificates to residents for completing training courses. Subjects included basic housing law, finding funds and treasurer skills, public speaking, chairing meetings and how to manage a project.

Les Warren, THH’s Finance Director, said, "The programme is aimed at increasing knowledge and skills among residents so that they can get more involved in working with their landlords and developing their neighbourhoods.”

“But we offer training for personal development too, such as writing skills, job search skills and an introduction to computing.”

This is the second year that THH has run a training programme in partnership with other housing providers in Tower Hamlets including, Providence Row, Gateway, Newlon, One Housing, Spitalfields and Tower Hamlets Community Housing.

Les added, “We also worked in partnership with Idea Store Learning and Women’s Environmental Network, who helped us deliver some of the training courses.”

We will announce a new joint-training programme in the autumn.
