The resident engagement team at Tower Hamlets Homes were proud to launch a new THH initiative, Get Started East, at a promotional event in Bow last week. Get Started East is a start-up micro enterprise pilot offering £150,000 worth of loans and business support to residents in the borough.

Get Started East is a joint initiative between three East London Housing providers: Poplar HARCA; Swan Housing Association and Tower Hamlets Homes, who are working together with The Swan Foundation and The Start Up Loans Company - a UK-wide, Government-backed scheme.

The programme will be managed by London Small Business Centre and will support local residents to start, or grow, their own businesses via the distribution of small loans to those who are struggling to secure traditional finance. The average loan amount is anticipated to be in the region of £3,000 - £5,000. Loan Interest Rates are competitive and all loan recipients have access to a mentor, free training events and exclusive offers, and can be connected with a network of other local businesses.

This important project will help lots of budding local businesses to thrive by getting them the support and expertise they need, enabling them to contribute to our vibrant neighbourhoods.

Fokrul Hoque, Resident Engagement Manager at Tower Hamlets Homes said:

"East London is a real hub of creativity, diversity and entrepreneurism. We are proud to be involved in this important project which will help many budding local businesses to thrive by getting them the support and expertise they need."
