Archive News Story: November 2015

This year’s Guy Fawkes celebrations are fast approaching. Fireworks are a traditional part of enjoying celebrations such as bonfire night or New Year but they are also the cause of hundreds of serious accidents every year.

Please keep yourselves and your community safe by following this simple advice:

  • Please don’t leave items outside your front door, in communal areas or outside bin rooms
  • Call Streetline on 020 7364 5004 to get large items and furniture removed
  • Report anti-social behaviour with fireworks or bonfires on 0800 917 5918
  • Report unlicensed firework traders to trading standards on 020 7364 5008.
  • Keep pets indoors

To reduce the number of ‘nuisance’ or ‘dangerous’ fires, we don’t allow BONFIRES on our estates or neighbourhoods.

Anti-social behaviour

It’s likely that residents may be disturbed during the firework season.  THH ASB team will not usually record or respond to ‘one off’ incidents/reports of disturbances from fireworks during this season.  However, if you witnesses people acting in an anti-social manor with fireworks and it is causing a danger to the public then we would advise THH residents to call their local Neighbourhood Policing team or the THEO’s (0800 917 5918) as, subject to resources being available, they may be able to attend an incident as it is happening. Residents can also report unlicensed firework traders to trading standards on 020 7364 5008.

Organised displays

The London Fire Brigade suggests that it is always best to attend an organised firework display.

There are plenty of organised bonfires and firework displays in London to make your Guy Fawkes celebrations go with a bang.

Come and celebrate Fireworks Night at Victoria Park, Tower Hamlets, on Saturday, November 7 at 7pm! Admission is free.
